Mrs. Rodgers's 8th grade writing class

Last unit of the year!

Our last unit of the year is underway.  We are doing a novel study of the Holocaust memoir I Have Lived a Thousand Years.  This novel is one that will stay with you for years to come, and it is a great way to review all the literary terms we’ve been studying this year.  Students are to be keeping notes on the novel in their notebooks, and we will have a notebook check next Thursday, 5/16/19, for our last grade of the year.  PLEASE be sure to keep up with your notes as there will be no time no make-ups.

Goals Drafts DUE!

Don’t forget!!  The last final draft of the year is due today!  🙂

Typed Dory Essays Due Wednesday!

Typed Dory essays are DUE on Wednesday!  We’ve been working on these for a couple of weeks now…but…If you are behind, now is the time to catch up!

Lost?  See me during Flex!  🙂

Field Trip Forms

Field trip forms are past due.  We MUST have these on file in order for your child to go on any of the 4 remaining 8th grade field trips.  Student who plan to go on the trip to the ballet must also bring $5 to pay for their ticket.  Please send this in ASAP, so we can buy an accurate number of tickets.  🙂

Our first field trip is this week to SCCHS.  Students will listen to a presentation by the principal, Brandon Taylor.  They will then be taken on a tour of the school, and finally, they will have a chance to register for classes.  Please look for the class register paper to come home for you to see; please sign & return to school.  Any questions about registration should be directed to our counselor, Shannon Little (shannon.little@sccboe.org) or the freshman counsleor, Brittany Pulliam (brittany.pulliam@sccboe.org).

Report Cards

Just a friendly reminder that report cards were sent home today.  Please take a look at all of the information that was sent home with report cards, especially the field trip form and “How to Keep in Touch with the 8th Grade Teachers” newsletter.

Please sign the report cards and send back to school with the completed field trip form.  As always, if you have any questions or would like to schedule a conference, just send me an email!  Julie.Rodgers@sccboe.org  🙂
